About Our Captain
Captain Matt, our lead captain and operations manager, has a lifetime on the water. Growing up in Ohio, he spent a lot of time on freshwater lakes. At a young age, he attended Power Squadron classes with his parents to navigate Lake Erie before GPS and state-of-the-art electronics were mainstream. In 2007, Captain Matt moved to Florida, where he spent much of his time on Florida’s inland waters, focusing on Lake Okeechobee as he competed locally in Largemouth Bass Tournaments. Since then, Captain Matt has owned numerous vessels transiting Gulf waters around Sanibel and Marco Islands and a much heavier presence in the waters of the Palm Beaches.
While being a lifelong recreational boater, Captain Matt took professional schooling at Chapman School Of Seamanship in Stuart, FL, to obtain his Merchant Mariner Credential, aka captain license. He is trained in First Aid/CPR/AED and volunteers his spare time with the Palm Beach County Sherriff Volunteer Marine Unit. Captain Matt holds a dual-endorsed USCG-issued Master Inland 100T/50T Near Coastal License with towing assistance.
Captain Matt knows how to have a great time on the water providing a vast wealth of knowledge, history, fun facts and humor, while emphasizing safety and guest comfort. He has also worked with notable boat tour companies in the area, learning from the best and taking that knowledge, customer service and customer experiences to all new heights, even developing a deeply compassionate Ocean Ash Scattering Service. He has maintained a flawless boating record with zero recorded incidents at sea. As such, Captain Matt wants all guests to have a great time on board the Bonnie Lee as safely as possible and has final authority in all matters relating to the vessel’s operation
Due to Federal Regulation, THC of any kind (even if prescribed) may not be brought on board the vessel. Firearms/weapons, liquor, dark wines, alcohol, aerosol sunscreen, tanning oils/lotions and smoking is prohibited. Proper footwear must be worn. See Info/FAQ on our website for more information.
